Ro Tuisawau is sidestepping the issue

Dear Editor,

Ro Filipe Tuisawau is once again sidestepping the issue by launching on a personal attack on the Citizens’ Constitutional Forum and myself (22/09/07).

I had raised in my earlier letter that Ro Tuisawau took official leave from work to support coup leader George Speight in Parliament, at the height of the 2000 coup.

The issue here is that the 1987 and 2000 coup have been instigated and supported by Fijians. The SDL party openly supported the 2000 coup. The racist policies being propagated by SDL also continues to advance the cause of the 2000 coup makers. This contributed to the December 2006 coup – which is the third coup that has been imposed on Fiji’s people.

The lesson that Ro Tuisawau needs to understand is, it was a big mistake for Fijians to support the 1987 and 2000 coups. This mistake appears to have trapped Fiji in a coup cycle, as evidenced by the 2006 coup.

Those who have supported and participated in any of the coups need to admit their mistake and apologise to the nation. Only then will there be a chance of moving away from the coup culture.

Trying to justify SDL’s racial policies will not help to move the country forward. History has shown that only united countries have been able to progress as a nation.

Yours truly,

………………………………….
