Public Conversation event on universal indicators of free and fair elections

Press Release

24 July 2014

The people of Fiji are invited to participate in a Public Conversation at the University of the South Pacific’s (USP Laucala) ICT Building on the 29th July 2014 at 6pm to help deepen society’s understanding of the internationally recognized indicators of “free and fair elections”.

Hosted by USP and coordinated by the Citizens’ Constitutional Forum (CCF), the event will feature the launch of a research paper produced by CCF and a Panel Discussion on the topic “What are the universal benchmarks of free and fair elections? To what extent does Fiji’s 2013 Constitution, and its implementation, meet these benchmarks?” Audience contributions on this topic will be encouraged.

This is the first event in a series of four Public Conversations coordinated by the CCF. The other three events will look at the Separation of Powers (12th August), the Bill of Rights (26th August), and Transitional Processes (9th September). The details of these will be released later.

CCF would like to clarify that the Public Conversation Series is for research and information purposes only, for the benefit of the Fijian public. It is not intended in any way to be considered engagement, participation in, or conducting of any form of campaign.

All sections of the public are welcome to attend this Public Conversation event. Journalists and Photographers are also invited.

Refreshments will be provided after the official event.

For enquires or questions contact CCF Communications on email: media1@ccf.org.fj or call (679) 3308 379.
