2019 Constitution Day Quiz
In commemorating Constitution Day, the Citizens’ Constitutional Forum (CCF) held a quiz night in Nadi on Friday evening, September 6th, at the Hexagon International Hotel, Villas & Spa Conference Room – Martintar, Nadi.
The quiz night was an activity where questions were based around the 2013 Fiji Constitution – more so with Human Rights as interpreted in the Bill of Rights where the theme of the event was “Understand your Constitution”.
The activity that was funded the European Union and Bread for the World – Germany, was implemented last year in Suva, and this is the first time representatives from the west media, civil society organisations and youth groups had a chance to test their knowledge on Fiji’s Constitution.
CCF Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Louchrisha Hussain, said this activity helps the organisation achieve our main activity objective which is to create awareness on Fiji’s 2013 Constitution – especially section 2 which is our comprehensive Bill of Rights.
She said CCF introduced this activity to promote interest, awareness and understanding of our Constitution and also to further CCF’s broad aim to continue the work of advocacy on this important book. The implementation of the quiz series also complements our civic education workshops at community level which advocates and educates communities on Human Rights and specifically the 2013 Fiji Constitution.
“For CCF historically commemorating Constitution Day is an ideal platform for education purposes and the creation of dialogue with multiple stakeholders around policies. It also clarifies the purpose of the day to people that may not understand or have misconceptions around the day celebrated,” said the CCF’s newly appointed CEO.
“CCF wishes to stress the importance of reading and understanding our Constitution as this consists of our country’s rules or laws which determine the form of our government and outlines respective rights and duties of the State towards the citizens and of the citizens towards the State. Simply put, this means that this book contains a guideline / standard on how we should carry ourselves as responsible citizens but also how we should treat one another with dignity,” said Hussain.
