16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based violence begins

The Citizens’ Constitutional Forum is glad to be commencing the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence global campaign for 2016 today. CCF believes that everyone has a pivotal role to play to stop all forms of violence in our community.

The theme for this year is “From peace in the home to peace in the world: Make education safe for all.” The 16 days are used each year to reinforce that eliminating all forms of violence against women is a human rights issue and that the act of perpetrating violence against women is a human rights violation.

“The 16 days of activism is a crucial time for people to reflect on the theme and identify ways we can take to establish peace wherever we are in society,” said CCF CEO Sara Bulutani Mataitawakilai.” He further added,” people need to take the time to address the issue of violence in our homes and our society. If we as families can come together and mitigate such issues in our homes and find peace, then our communities will find peace. That would enable our nation to find peace.”

The campaign which spans from 25 November to 10 December each year not only highlights the major issue of violence against women, but also commemorates other international days and their causes towards human dignity and recognition that coincide with the campaign. Some of the causes are the Abolition of Slavery, Anti-Corruption Day, World Aids Day, International Day for People with Disabilities, White Ribbon day to commemorate the Montreal Massacre and finally coinciding with the Human Rights day.

CCF is pleased to be one of the 5179 organizations in approximately 187 countries that have participated in the 16 Days Campaign since 1991.
