Leadership, Good Governance and Human Rights Workshop for Savusavu Youth
Fifty youths from the Hidden Paradise of Savusavu attended a two day workshop
organized by the Citizens Constitutional Forum (CCF) on the 10 -11th April 2014.
Topics for the one day workshop included the 2013 Constitution, leadership, human
rights and good governance.
Participants welcomed the workshop stating that such workshops were very rare in
Savusavu and that it provided the space where they could freely exchange views on
human rights, good governance and leadership. They also stated the workshop broadened
their knowledge on human rights and the responsibilities.
Vaseva Muaibeqa, 25, from Yaroi in Savusavu who was attending the workshop for the
first time; said she had learnt more about her responsibilities when practicing Human
rights and that such a workshop is useful.
Joseva Kelo, 24, from Naviavia in Wailevu, Cakaudrove said “I received new
information on human rights, good governance and different leadership style and roles.
“The workshop has been very useful to me personally and I will share the knowledge to
my friends when I go back to my village.”
Participants also discussed the challenges they experience between culture, religion and
human rights in their communities
One participant who did not want to be named said “We have inherited rights and these
come with responsibilities. However, we still have high cases of violence against women
and still there is a struggle to educate children.”
A similar workshop will be held in Labasa on the 14 and 15th April.
